For those who have yet to meet me, I’m Danny Bucklen. My career in the power industry began in January 1973 at the City of Lakeland, a municipality in central Florida. I became a system operator in 1980, and have been at Georgia System Operations Corporation, in the metropolitan Atlanta area, for 13 years. Joining the newly formed Southeast Area of the APDA in 1993 was like entering a fraternity. It was — and is — a group of friendly, interesting people eager to learn more about the business of keeping the lights on. Since that time, many of you may have met me at national meetings while serving in the capacity of National Trustee for this area. This office was after my service as Vice President and President of the Southeast Area, respectively. As I take the helm, there are great things going on in the organization. Some of the big news from the Portland meeting was that Incremental Systems / System Operations Success has generously donated to each area of the APDA a training package consisting of 100 hours of online training. This scholarship, which will be available to a family member or a colleague sponsored by an APDA member, is intended to help someone attain NERC certification for a system operator position. This is a great opportunity to help groom someone who desires to make the leap from a related industry position, such as substation or plant positions, into the control center. This generosity illustrates the continuing support that the APDA enjoys with their relationship with Incremental Systems and SOS. Keep an eye on the Web site for updates about what’s going on in the organization.
